Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Wadhwana is a small hamlet located about 40 km from Vadodara city. Set amidst lush green fields, a huge lake with about 2 km radius which is about 8 km from Dahboi. This lake is an irrigation reservoir and wetland which acts as an water source for nearly 25 nearby villages and also a popular bird watching site for bird lovers as well as a wintering grounds to large number of waterfowl as well as land birds. it is breeding ground for birds like stork, ibis, tern and spoonbill. Wadhwana is a century old tank, constructed by erstwhile King Gaikwad in 1909-10. This tank has a catchment area of 860 sq km, deriving its water from Orsang river.
The Wadhwana Wetlands are home to many birds like the Indian River Terns , Openbills, Grey Lag Geese, Rudy Shell Ducks, Common Pochards, Herons, Black Ibis, Egrets, Green Bee Eaters, Osprey, Purple Moorhens, Pied Kingfishers, Wire Tailed Swallows and many more to name. The best time to visit the lake is during October to March. the sunrise and sunsets is a panoramic view which should not be missed.
As the place is far away from the daily noise and pollution of the city, the place provides a relief from the city life as well as peace of mind. the flowing water and the soothing breeze which flows along gives us an immense pleasure giving us an urge to stay back in the vicinity. The view is worth the visit and place is adorable.
